Senior Backend Engineer


The Senior Backend Engineer at Stitcher is responsible for maintaining and building the infrastructure that runs the Stitcher consumer application, the back-office CMS and content partner portal. The ideal candidate will have extensive full-stack experience in developing and designing complex, highly scalable consumer-facing, web-based applications. Additionally, the right individual will be a fast learner, have worked across a variety of technologies (being open to learning new ones), be comfortable solving problems in a live production environment and able to both support a mature legacy codebase and develop/refactor scalable, extensible code using industry best practices. This position reports to the Director of Engineering. We are a team-based, collaborative environment so strong communication skills and a proactive approach is necessary. The ideal candidate will be technically experienced, organized, self-starting, articulate and meticulous.

What You'll Do:

  • Work on server-side development for Stitcher's award-winning, industry-leading audio service
  • Work closely with client developers to provide novel features and enhancements to the service
  • Help develop strategies to implement features in an efficient, scalable way
  • Develop server-side support for 3rd party integrations
  • Ownership or collaboration of key aspects of the backend LAMP stack
  • Help support Stitcher audio processing pipeline
  • Help support Stitcher data pipeline
  • Server administration as needed
  • Help maintain legacy PHP codebase in support of consumer-facing web and API properties
  • Help support back-office tools


  • What You'll Bring:

  • Knowledge or expertise with audio and image editing & encoding tools such as lame, imagick, exif, ffmpeg, etc
  • Machine listening/audio information retrieval
  • Experience with Laravel
  • Experience with AdminLTE

  • Education & Experience/Certifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in computer science or equivalent experience; Master's preferred
  • Expert (5+ years) in PHP and at least one other language (Java, python, perl)
  • Expert working with in-memory data storage (memcache, Redis, elasticsearch)
  • Expertise in configuration management tools (puppet preferred)
  • Experience in AWS or similar cloud offerings
  • Experience with Subversion and Git
  • Experience with systems administration, dev-ops and operations

    Senior Database Administrator


    We are looking for a Senior Database Administrator to join us at Stitcher, one of the smartest and strongest teams in podcasting! As an early mover and innovator in on-demand audio, Stitcher is one of the most ubiquitous spoken-word platforms. In addition to joining a great team, we offer:

  • The Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for maintaining, monitoring and optimizing our MySQL data systems. This role is situated in our data team and reports to the Director of Data. As quality data and health is central to Stitcher's success, this is a key role in the organization. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in administering MySQL, including AWS Aurora & RDS.

  • MySQL database administration and ownership of the production data environment health, including the Continuent cluster, backups and recovery
  • Aurora and RDS DB administrations

    Partner Support and Content Operations Specialist


    The Partner Support and Content Operations Specialist will be the liaison between our brands' content partners and internal teams responsible for providing the span of technical services we offer (hosting, distribution, data, monetization), ensuring we continue to deliver world-class products. This position will be intimately familiar with the content lifecycle, from conception to successful deployment, and thus serves as a primary resource for directives when the need for new processes emerge or setbacks arise. This role reports to the Head of Content Operations.

    Our ideal candidate will be an effective communicator, highly organized, familiar with industry trends and excited to contribute to the growth of the podcast and audio content landscape. A passion for problem-solving and ensuring our partners feel supported and excited about being on Stitcher/Midroll is an additional quality we seek. The ideal team member will enjoy educating others through empowering them with accurate, concise information.

    What You'll Do:

  • Oversee operations for original content, as well as onboard and manage partner content on both the Midroll and Stitcher platforms
  • Partner support: onboarding education, facilitate show requests, new partner outreach and manage promotional campaign requests (tool improvements, automation, general optimization)
  • Onboard client partners, develop launch plans, and coordinate timelines with stakeholders
  • Work with our owned and operated content brand teams to orchestrate cross-promotional campaigns and prioritize premium content initiatives
  • Work with our sales team to build monetized campaigns that meet deadlines and deliverables
  • External communications: through social media and email, communicate scheduled maintenance, product announcements, and anticipate FAQs


  • What You Bring:

  • 1-3 years of content operations/marketing experience
  • Helpdesk support experience is a must, crisis communications experience preferred
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Familiarity with content management systems
  • Highly organized, responsive problem-solver who's always armed with Plans B, C, and D
  • Comfortable with Google Business tools (gmail, calendar, spreadsheets)
  • Passion for talk content, podcasts and digital innovation generally
  • Editorial experience with social media, copywriting, or public relations is a plus
  • Experience with audio editing tools (Audition, Audacity, etc.) also a plus
  • Creative, enthusiastic, and collaborative
