Here are the steps to consider when it comes to being in business for yourself. 1. What is your passion? What is that one thing your would do if you didn’t have your full-time job? What would your business look like? 2. What business structure would you choose? Would your business be a sole proprietor, S-Corp, Limited Liability Company, Partnership, or a Corporation? 3. Choose a name or your business. Would your business incorporate your name? When choosing a name, choose a name where customers can think of you when it comes to your product or service. 4.. Would you have employees? If you plan on having employees, you need to consider federal and state tax that need to be withheld for payroll taxes, federal and state unemployment taxes, and workman’s compensation. You will also need to consider benefits like insurance and retirement plans that employees could participate in. 5. Will you business have a physical brick and mortal location or will it be online? Maybe it will be a combination of both> 6. Will you sell tangible products, services, or a combination of both? 7. If your business is a corporation, S-Corp, LLC, a partnership, or I you have employees, you will need a EIN (Federal Employer Identification Number). 8. Consider your prices and price level. Who is customers? What are you selling? Research your competition. 9. Competition - Research your competition? What makes you unique when it comes to your products and services that stands out? What can you do better that they aren’t doing?
