Senator Brandes Of Florida on Implementing Solar Tax Exemption in Conservative Tallahassee
This is an episode all about how, Florida’s solar got a legislative win so the future of the market could begin to realize the full potential of the Sunshine State. A commercial and tangible property tax exemption for solar that is 3 years in the making. Senator Brandes has an A+ rating and over 100% voting record for AFP’s economic freedom report.
I interview Senator Jeff Brandes, one of the most conservative members of the Florida legislature, about his leadership on getting the amendment on the ballot, fighting for it to be passed by voters and then getting the implementation rules through the legislature. Brandes is the unlikely but needed leader that Florida needs to turn the corner. A self described libertarian that sees the upside of having solar compete and give consumers a cheap, fixed source of energy.
At the 20 minute mark, Brandes and I talk about solar in a competitive market. Realizing there is more work to be done in Florida, it is now up to the solar industry to educate the legislature on what stops solar from competing in the energy marketplace. This was the dialogue that should open up the doors for policy teams to keep moving forward.
A word of wisdom from the Senator however as he provides feedback to the policy teams that worked on the amendment 4 implementation. It again shows that too many groups are overlapping and creating confusion amongst legislators.
Make sure to send your thanks to Senator Brandes on Twitter @JeffreyBrandes.
