The Church Is… (part 5)
Pastor Chris continues our sermon series, The Church Is... with part 5, The Church Is Welcoming. Suppose that you come into church and sit down in your regular spot and as you are waiting for church is start and incredibly famous person, whether that is an actor, musician, speaker, or author sits down on your right. You probably will begin to lose your mind. You cannot believe that this is happening. Then suppose another just as famous person comes and sits on your left. You probably think that you are dreaming and that this isn't real. You try to being to lean out with your phone and discreetly take a photo for evidence when you go and tell your friends later and they will not believe you. Would you be able to worship and really focus in on what God would have for you that Sunday? What you are in the same exact position with the famous people on your left and right and then the incredible presence of God comes into church. More powerful than you have ever felt. You see God on the throne literally right in front of you. You are completely speechless. It no longer matters who you are in the presence of, you are in the presence of the Almighty! We have forgotten the glory of God and have elevated people to be special. More imporatnt than other. This is what the world does. It puts a value on people. Saying some are better than others. Rich person come have the best seat at church and poor person you can stand in the back or even sit on the ground. God does not look at His kids and play favorites. He doesn't love one person more than another, forgive a person more than another or extend grace to one person over another. God doesn't play favorites and therefore we shouldn't either. James chapter 2 clearly outlines the conduct for the church when they play favorites. God hates it! How can we be the most loving and extending the same grace and anti-judgment on people in our church? We cannot treat people like the world treats people.
