Deep, engrossing political commentary
I think Desmo78 hit the nail on the head - Mike is one of the best story tellers out there. He doesn't parrot talking points, or simply read headlines and blab about how he thinks things should be run. Mike gets to the heart of issues and uses engrossing stories that truly reflect the human experience.
The most recent podcast (as of 6/21/2014), "Iraq! We were wrong!" is a wonderful example, and there are many others from past shows. In this particular episode, Mike contrasts the struggle for freedom in the United States during the revolutionary period with the current situation of Iraq. Spoiler alert: His point is that Iraq needs its own versions of Thomas Payne, Patrick Henry, etc. to start and sustain a real freedom movement and that US intervention has failed to inspire them to fight this battle on their own.

Open Your Mind
Mike is one of the best story tellers I've heard. He has the ability to tell you about an event by drawing you in and then he wraps it up at the end with a valuable lesson to the story. I's also great to listen to someone that is consistent and true to his values and principles. I was disappointed to find out he was no longer on Sirius because I thought I wouldn't be able to listen anymore. I was excited to find out he was on The Blaze Radio and that I could listen on Stitcher. I downloaded the app just for this show.

My favorite talk show host is Tammy Bruce. However, I stumbled onto Slater. He has a unique niche by tying history with the 21st century. I called my brother that evening to tell him about Slater. He downloaded the podcast and enjoyed listening, too.
