About This Show
This podcast, called The Drive, will be recorded in my car once or twice each week. It will be less than 20 mins and will focus on providing ideas for teachers to use in the classroom, educational technology ideas, flip class ideas, gamification ideas, team building ideas and if it is similar enough to my blog, the occasional rant…..
The Drive represents what I am doing while recording the podcast. But there are several things that this phrase could represent for teachers. The Drive to be the most amazing teacher you can be. The Drive to reach every student in your classroom everyday no matter what. The Drive to overcome any obstacle that is in your way. The Drive to make a difference on future generations. The Drive to finish. The Drive to _____________.

Setting Goals for 2017
It’s a new year! Forget the resolutions, set some practical goals to reach for this year. Resolutions are often broken:
“I’m going to the gym every day in 2017!”
Which is broken the first time you don’t make it. Be practical, take small steps, and move toward the big epic win.
Take the gym example above, here is one possible way to break it down into something you can do:
For the next four weeks, I work out for 30 minutes twice a week. Find a video to watch on YouTube or use that fitness DVD in the back of the entertainment center. Now celebrate this small victory and move on to step two.
For the next four weeks, I will work out for 45 minutes three times a week. Celebrate the small victory, move on to step three.
Find a gym that is close and has a reasonable price. Work out three times a week for 60 minutes. Celebrate the small victory. Move onto step four.
Repeat step three until the end of 2016.
Celebrate the epic win.
Small, easy, manageable steps can lead to amazing things. I have my own goals this year: write my dissertation proposal, defend my proposal, research my dissertation topic, write my dissertation, defend my dissertation, graduate. Each step is important for the next, each step is manageable. But if I look from right now to the end I am terrified…My one-word goal for 2017: #Finish
