Show Info: Jook / Juke joint is the vernacular term for an informal establishment that offers music, food, dancing, gambling, and drinking. Jooks were and, the ones that remain today are primarily operated by African American people and found in the southeastern United States. Classic juke joints found, for example, at rural crossroads, catered to the rural work force that began to emerge after the emancipation Set up on the outskirts of town, often in ramshackle buildings or private houses, juke joints was the only outlet weary plantation and labor workers had to go to socialize and blow off steam after grueling six-day workweeks.
