THE MASTER VS THE DABBLER
I think you’ll agree with me when I say that there are really only two kinds of people.: The Master and The Dabbler.
It’s important to learn the difference between the two, and which path you need to take to achieve mastery in any skill or area of life, be it building your confidence, mastering your health, creating a great business or achieving world-class skill on a musical instrument.
So what’s the difference?
Well, dabblers make up the majority of our society today, as our culture tends to reward dabbling. So many people are caught up in the shiny object syndrome, always getting distracted by the next exciting opportunity and failing to follow through completely.
You can probably see how this behavior can be destructive, right? The Dabbler rarely, if ever, achieves true mastery because they never chose to commit to one thing until it becomes a strong habit and a way of life.
That’s not all.
The other self-sabotaging behavior The Dabbler has is to always seek instant gratification over long term fulfillment. This means that they indulge in surface-level pleasures and distractions like drugs, food or entertainment. These things could never bring us lasting fulfillment.
So who is the Master?
The Master commits to greatness in every action they take. Masters are rare because it takes a true level of focus to commit to one thing until it is mastered. The Master is often willing to make sacrifices and take risks, they are willing to suffer now for the fulfillment they will receive in the future.
So how can we commit to mastery and master our craft to make our mark?
It’s simple – not easy – but simple. Choose what it is that truly matters to you most and be honest about trimming away the excess. For you to achieve true greatness, you need to be focused on what exactly it is that you are aspiring to master and you need to eliminate all distractions.
So do it now. Decide.
