Amber Sherrard joins Find Your Fit again for episode #28. Kevan says he has started the plank challenge that Jessica mentioned in the previous episode. Jessica tells how she skipped one night of planking and she had bad dreams about it all night. Kevan thanks our sponsors: Push Beverages, the Colorado Center for the Blind (CCB), and the National Federation of the Blind (NFB). Jessica reminds us about the St. Patrick’s Day Lucky Laces 5 & 10K Race. This first of three races the National Fitness Challenge in Colorado presented by WE Fit Wellness, United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA) and the Anthem Foundation.
This episode’s injury update by Kevan is that he has recovered from all of his injuries and he will be running the Lucky Laces 10K.
Kevan mentions Michal Kapral from episode #27 of the Find Your Fit podcast and that he raises money for charities when he joggles in races. This is a very common trait of the running and outdoor active communities. These athletes and people are very giving of themselves, their talents, their resources, and their time.
The team welcomes Sabrina Simmons to the podcast. Jessica met Sabrina at an NFB seminar and was motivated and encouraged by her health and wellness journey and invited her to share her story. Sabrina lost her sight due to diabetes. She gained about 70 lbs. after she became blind and decided she needed to make some changes to lose the weight. She began exercising by taking a water aerobics class at the local YMCA. From there she took several other fitness classes like Zumba, yoga, Thai Chi, and others. Along with working out at the YMCA, Sabrina added exercises to activities she would normally be sitting down while doing, like watching television. She has also recently changed her diet as well. Sabrina has implemented a plant-based diet as part of her routine
