The City Scout Podcast is back and we are excited to have Melody Stone and Anthony VanHook, of Hooks & Stone: A Podcast, as our hosts for season 2. On our Season 2 opener we are tackling all sides of Pokémon Go, the free-to-play, location-based, augmented reality game developed by Niantic for iOS and Android devices. In the game, players use their smartphone’s GPS capability to locate, capture, battle, and train virtual pocket monsters, called Pokémon, who appear on the screen as if they were in the same real-world location as the player. It’s been downloaded by millions worldwide, and our hosts, along with our lovely guests, are here to uncover the social charm, mass appeal, and technological impact the game has made within its short existence. Brooksie Hughes, Old Sacramento District Director, stopped by to talk about how the game livened the various businesses in Old Sac, while Joseph Gutierrez and Eric Schaefer, from the Sac Social Club, discuss the conception of their Pokémon Go Pub Crawl from July, which garnered hundreds of participants. We also talked to Aaron Watkins of Appency, about his company’s new Pokémon Go support app, “PokéNet – The Unofficial Social Network and Guide for Pokémon Go Players”. Listen in for some stimulating segments sure to send electric volts through your brain similar to those sent by a super-charged Pikachu!
