LUL025 - 4 Ways To Free Yourself From Overwhelm
For the most part, people are overwhelmed. From day workers, to professionals to stay at home moms. In some cases, the higher a person’s leadership position and income, the greater the stress, anxiety and likelihood of depression. A recent survey that cited 8 out of 10 people who made over $100k yearly drank alcohol, compared to 4 out of 10, who made less than $30k. They explained away this phenomenon by stating that people with higher incomes had greater access to money to buy alcohol. REALLY? Just a note to consider. Regardless, I would like to offer some ways to reduce your stress and anxiety. Wine may be delicious, but if you’re drinking it daily to survive, it doesn’t resolve the underlying issue. MeditateMy favorite tool is the paid version of the guided meditation Relax and Rest app (green logo with a face). The five minute meditation is a lifesaver and can be immediately used when someone at work hijacks your mind. The voice says, “Come back into your body…feel your fingers and toes.” When we are mad, we forget we have fingers and toes, so this is a great reminder. After five minutes, with a clear and refreshed mind, re-engage the conversation and make better decisions. The 30 minute program is great to use at night before bed since your mind is always busy and you’re frequently thinking about what you need to get done. She reminds you that you don’t have anything to do at the moment. Also to lower your shoulders and unclench your teeth; which you don’t realize you’re doing until she says it. Boost Your MotivationWhen you’ve fallen into a pit of despair, play your favorite songs from childhood and dance. Music has the ability to quickly shift your mood and make you happier. Madonna, Prince and Michael Jackson (from the 80’s) are always good choices. Beyonce and Lady Gaga are great choices too. The key is not to take yourself too seriously. Dance for 15-30 minutes until you feel better. If you have to dance until you pass out, that’s a great option too! J One practice to consider is dancing in the rain (in warm climates for now). There is something freeing about dancing in the rain because it’s so abnormal for adults, but not frowned upon for children.
