EP 30- Protein Myths And Fallacies (with special guest Emma Cook)
A few weeks ago, after one of our live streams, I received an interesting question from a listener. The question was regarding a certain brand of protein marketed specifically to women, and immediately I thought to myself what could possibly be different between a women’s protein or one made for the general population.
It is important to understand the supplement industry, according to an article from Forbes, in 2012 was a 32 billion dollar industry and is projected to hit revenues of 60 billion dollars in 2021. If you are a regular listener to the podcast you know we have touched on the protein spiking incident that has recently been in the news, and just last week we spoke to the allegations that John Meadows brought against Prime Nutrition regarding his signature product Intra MD. Its no secret that the owners of major supplement companies have been looking for ways to cut corners in order to lower costs and pad their own pockets.
When i decided to take on this subject matter, I knew we had to find a guest who would dig into research in order to present a non bias opinion. I knew immediately I had to get Emma Cook back on the show!
Emma first joined us on Episode 10 to discuss how she developed her own nutritional plan and flexible approach to dieting. I was really blown away we she referenced scientific journals and articles rather than the more commonly sited “bro science” we often find on the internet.
Emma certainly didn't disappoint! We both spent several weeks looking into some of the top brands of protein and supplements marketed specifically towards women. We discussed what certain companies claim to add to their powders in order to make them more useful for women and their unique nutrient requirements. We also break things down by price and finally give our opinions on some of the brands and if they are worth the money or not.
Some of the brands we looked into include:
PES Science Select Protein
Fit Miss Delight
Emma also fills us and and brings us up to speed as to how she is progressing with her own transformation, and surprises Alan and me when she starts talking powerlifting training. If you’re interested in what Emma is doing and would like to follow along check her out on Instagram.
