The "Old Buck" Of Powerlifting

What a week it has been! From dealing with sick kids to live streaming our first major event and finally meeting with my surgeon I have been beyond busy which makes it very easy to ease up on the nutrition and training as I am sure many of you can relate to. Even though it was a very busy week, and compromises were made with my own training and nutrition it was a lot of fun covering the 2017 Ohio APF Powerlifting Championship. My goal for the past year has been to return to competition, and even though my injuries will postpone my return, I am more focused than ever after seeing some of the tremendous lifts completed last weekend. Attending the powerlifting meet also gave me the opportunity to interview a long time friend of mine, Tracy Wyler. You won’t find him on social media as he is 58 years old and still uses a flip phone, but you can find him in the gym throwing around some heavy weights. Tracy and I traveled all over the state of Ohio and into neighboring states competing in powerlifting meets for several years. He was there when I finally hit my goal of a 700 pound bench press and we trained together for years never missing a session. It was a lot of fun sitting down with Tracy and reminiscing about past competitions and stories I had forgot about. Tracy also explains his goals for 2017 which include bench pressing 500 pounds at 58 years old and under 200 pounds bodyweight. He has a great message you don't want to miss.
Of course no episode would be complete without checking in with Alan and Ben. Ben managed to hit a new all time low regarding his bodyweight as well as putting in some miles as he continues to train for his half marathon. Alan FINALLY managed to get the scale moving in the right direction (might be something to those “bio-rhythms”) and we start to hash out some goals for Alan for the next 16 weeks.
The three of us also discuss what it means to program your workouts correctly for your abilities and how to deal with the apprehension of joining a gym.
