Episode 4 – Donnie Marsh of New View Window Cleaning in Chattanooga, TN
One thing that's unclear about Donnie is whether he's the first of a new generation of entrepreneur or a super badass relic from the old school.
There's no use pretending: his day job is not glamorous. New View Window Cleaning provides a great service to Chattanooga, but it's not what Donnie always thought he'd be doing. Yet, as Donnie makes clear, "my dad gave me a skillset. It's my strength, and it pays."
Donnie serves people a product he's proud of and one that makes customers reconnect with what they loved about a home when they bought it. All of this with one important twist: when you see Donnie washing windows or pressure washing driveways, you are watching a composer in his lab. It's here, Donnie says, that his best jokes get written.
And he introduces those jokes to Chatty folks a few nights a week as a stand-up comedian committed to developing the local comedy scene into a serious player. Yeah, he's funny, but he brings legit entrepreneurial chops to the gig, and it is beginning to show.
And what becomes clear over the course of our interview is both how much being an entrepreneur enhances his business and how much being an entrepreneur shapes his approach to comedy and the less humorous work of promotion and strategy.
