Stitcher uses your location to provide you with content specific to your area. The main way this is used is to create a local station for your city. If you look in the Local station category (found in On Demand Stations > New & Noteworthy) you will see a station titled “Local for [city], [state]”. This station is custom built to include shows that are relevant to your local area. If Stitcher doesn’t have your location then the station title is “Create my local station”.
To modify your location for the Stitcher application, you can visit the Location page in Settings. Click on the More tab, then on “Change Settings”, then on “Location”. You can click on the cross hairs button in the upper right corner to have your current location collected automatically. Or, you can manually enter in a zip code that you want Stitcher to use as your location.
Stitcher can only create custom local stations for users that are in the United States. All other features capabilities of Stitcher function correctly for users outside the United States. We are evaluating adding custom location support for other countries in a future release.
To pause a show, press the pause button at the bottom center of the player. When a show is paused, the pause button will turn into a play button. Press this play button when you are ready to resume listening.
Press the skip button located to the right of the pause/play button. The player will immediately go on to the next show in the station playlist.
Press the volume adjustment buttons on the side of your device, and the horizontal volume bar will appear at the bottom of the player page. Drag the icon on the bar or press a point on the volume bar to set the volume as desired. You can also use the volume buttons on your iPhone to adjust the volume without using the touch interface at all.
You can listen to Stitcher over your stereo (A2DP) Bluetooth headset. We do not support listening to Stitcher over a mono (HFP) Bluetooth headset. Due to current limitations from Apple, the audio controls on the stereo Bluetooth headset cannot be used to control the Stitcher player.
Load the station into the player. Once you are in the player, press the playlist button at the upper right of the player to go to the station playlist. Browse the list for the show you want to play and click on that show to start playing the show.
While most shows are saved in a single file, there are some longer shows that are saved as multiple part shows. For these shows, we play each part separately. The duration bar only reflects the current part that is playing. When the end of one part is reached, the next part will load. When the end of the final part is reached, the next show in the playlist is loaded. The extra controls allow you to move back and forth among the segments.
When you first load a show with multiple parts, the first part of the show will load and start playing. Once the player is loaded, you can quickly move to another segment using the arrow keys.
By default, if you close the Stitcher application while playing a show or a live radio stream, Stitcher will remember what you were listening to and where you are in the show! If you stop listening to a show and come back to it later, Stitcher will automatically resume to the same point you left off at in the show, so you don’t have to seek and find it manually.
When you launch Stitcher and it loads the show you had been listening to when it was closed, it will check to see if the show has been updated since you last listened. If there is a new episode of the show, then it will play the new episode from the beginning.
The favorites feature allows you to organize all of your favorite shows into your very own custom favorites stations rather than having to search shows every time or browse multiple stations. Building your favorites station is easy! Just press the star button when listening to any on-demand show you love, and Stitcher will let you add it to any of your favorites Stations. By adding shows to your favorites, you will never have to worry about keeping track of new episodes. Your favorites station will do that for you, notifying you with the number badge whenever new episodes are available for any show in your list.
When you are playing the show you want to add, press the star icon near the bottom of the player. You will be prompted with the “Manage Favorites” menu that will let you select the custom favorites station or stations you would like that particular show to appear in. If you’d like to create a new custom favorites station for this show, press the button that says “Create station from this show”, and Sticher will automatically create a new custom favorites station with this show along with 5 closely related shows. To access your favorites, press My Favorites from the Dashboard.
Favorites currently only supports on-demand shows. You cannot currently add a live stream to your favorites. This is functionality we are evaluating for a future release.
You can add as many shows as Stitcher offers.

When you no longer need a bookmarked show, simply swipe the bookmark and click the Delete button that appears.
If you are listening to a show and you believe others would enjoy or appreciate it, Stitcher enables to share the show with them. You can share through your Twitter account, through your Facebook account or through email.
While you are listening to a show, Stitcher lets you instantly share the episode you're listening to with your friends via Facebook, Twitter, or email by simply selecting the Twitter, Facebook, or Email share icons on the now playing page. They'll get a link to the specific episode of the show you shared that they can play on their mobile phone or on the web whether or not they have the Stitcher app installed.
When someone clicks on the shared link, they will hear the specific episode of the show that you shared, even if the show has been updated.
No, when someone clicks on the link, they will be taken to a place where they can hear the episode through their web browser directly. If they happen to have the Stitcher application installed, they will be able to listen to the show in the Stitcher player as well.
While playing any podcast on Stitcher, you can access previous episodes of the show from the Now Playing page by pressing the “Recent Episodes” tab. Stitcher currently offers approximately 5 previous episodes for each podcast. rn
In addition to helping you find the shows you know you love, Stitcher also offers an easy way to introduce you to new shows you'll soon love. While listening to any on demand show, check out the "listeners also like tab" to find recommendations based on what you're currently listening to. Stitcher's recommendations are based on what others who like the show you're listening to also like, using millions of hours of listening data to make sure you discover something that you'll find interesting.
Some podcasters choose to charge their listeners with a subscription fee in order to access their content. The key icon indicates the show is “Subscription Content” that you can access through Stitcher. All feeds like this require a subscription through a different site. If you select to play one of these shows, you will see a popup asking for your login information for this show. This is the login and password you created when you subscribed to that show on the other site. Once you enter your login and password, the show will start playing and the icon will change from a blue lock to a green dot, indicating you are authorized to play the show. You only need to enter your login and password one time. Stitcher will remember that you are authorized to play this subscription show.
From the Dashboard, click on the More tab in the top left and then click on the Subscription link. The list of all the Subscription shows available through Stitcher will appear on the next page.
The first time a Subscription show is reached in a station that you are playing, you will be prompted to login to it. You can enter your login and password to access the show, or you can cancel it to skip it and move on to the next show in the station. The next time you reach this show while playing a station, it will automatically be skipped. The automatic prompt only happens the first time.
Visit the designated official website of the podcast you would like to subscribe to, and register for a subscription account. After subscribing, return to Stitcher and click on the show again. Now that you are subscribed, you can enter your login and password for that show.
You can browse and listen to on-demand stations either by topics of “Interest”, such as News & Politics, Sports or Comedy, or by a content Source, such as the BBC or CNN. This makes browsing for and finding the content you want faster and easier. When on the On Demand Stations list, you can switch between Interests and Sources by scrolling up to “Interests”, or down to activate the “Sources” list.
When you know exactly what you're looking for, Stitcher's search box will bring it to you instantly. From virtually anywhere in Stitcher- the dashboard, front page, on demand stations, live stations, and bookmarks, simply find the search bar at the top of the page and type what you are looking for. If you don't see the search box, pull the screen down to reveal it. Whether its show names, episode titles, networks, hosts, guests, or keywords for almost any topic imaginable, Stitcher will find it for you with Search.
If you search for content you want on Stitcher and find that we don’t carry it, feel free to put in a request. Send a message to feedback@stitcher.com or using the feedback feature of the application describing the content you want added. It is always especially helpful to send a quick email or tweet to the show host themselves to let them know that you would like to hear their show on Stitcher. Podcasters love to hear from their own audience, and it will expedite our process of adding the show to our content lineup.
Station customization enables Stitcher’s advanced personalization engine to automatically retrieve the shows most relevant to your interests with minimal input on your part. You don’t need to sit in front of your computer for hours looking and listening to hundreds of shows to find the ones you like. Part of the basis for customization is noticing what you like and what you listen to, as well as what you skip while you are listening. In addition, other listener inputs such as the “I like this” (thumbs-up) icon are also used to customize and create stations tailored to your interests. Stitcher combines these elements along with other “learned” information such as show popularity to create the most personalized radio experience available.
There are several ways to customize your stations:
1.) Just listen! Stitcher takes your listening preferences and patterns into account when you listen and customizes your stations accordingly without any work on your part.
2.) Use the thumbs-down or thumbs-up icons in the player. Using these icons while a show is playing allows Stitcher to learn your preferences and arrange the shows in your stations accordingly.

Install Stitcher to your BlackBerry by visiting http://stitcher.com/dl from your BlackBerry browser. This will lead you to a screen where you can download the appropriate version for your particular BlackBerry device.
Stitcher is available on the BlackBerry Curve 8300, 8310, 8320, 8330 and 8350, the BlackBerry Curve 8520, the BlackBerry 8800, 8820 and 8830, the BlackBerry Curve 8900, the BlackBerry Bold 9000, the BlackBerry Storm 9500 and 9530 and the BlackBerry Tour 9630. Other versions are in development. If you see a screen that says a version for your BlackBerry is coming soon, you can enter your email address and we will notify you when a version is available.
If you are seeing a screen that says you need to try and download from your device, even though you are using your device, you need to adjust the settings on your browser. Open your browser, press the Menu button and select Options. Then click on Browser Configuration. Change Browser Identification to “BlackBerry”, and save the changes. Then try visiting http://stitcher.com/dl again.
If you are seeing an error immediately upon startup that reads something like “Error Starting stitcher: class ’net.rim.device.api.system.WLANInfo’ not found.” you most likely need to upgrade your BlackBerry OS. If you are running the latest BlackBerry OS on your device, and you still see this error, please send a message to us at feedback@stitcher.com.
On certain BlackBerry devices, APN settings are required for Stitcher to work over the mobile network. If the settings in your device don’t work correctly, we may prompt you to enter settings that do work. Usually, you can find the correct settings by contacting your service provider or by doing a search for APN setting and your service provider’s name.
We require BlackBerry OS 4.5 or later to run Stitcher. We recommend that you use the latest released operating system for your BlackBerry device. You must also have adequate application memory available to install and run the Stitcher application. Internal media storage or a media card may be required to play shows longer than 30 minutes.
You can listen to Stitcher over your stereo (A2DP) Bluetooth connection or over your mono (HFP) Bluetooth connection. Stitcher should recognize the connection you are using and automatically direct the audio to that location. However, if it doesn’t select the correct destination, you can go to the menu on the player and select Audio Source to change where the audio is directed. The audio controls on the stereo Bluetooth headset cannot be used to control the Stitcher player.
Load the station into the player. Once you are in the player, press the playlist button at the upper right of the player or from the player menu to go to the station playlist. Browse the list for the show you want to play and click on that show to start playing the show. It is not possible to listen to past episodes of a show. Stitcher hosts only the most current episodes.
As Stitcher buffers the entire show to your BlackBerry device, it needs to have adequate memory available to temporarily store the show. Longer shows require more memory. If your device does not have adequate free space for a particular show, the Stitcher application will not be able to download and play that show. However, Stitcher may be able to play other shows that are shorter. If you consistently get this message, you may need to install a media card for additional storage space. To support the longest shows offered on Stitcher, up to 60MB may be required. This space is used only while playing the show. Once the show is done playing, the space is freed up again.

If you search for content you want on Stitcher and find that we don’t carry it, feel free to put in a request. Send a message to feedback@stitcher.com or using the feedback feature of the application describing the content you want added.

Once you’ve selected one thumb icon on a particular show, you cannot change your selection until you close and restart the application.
Stitcher’s algorithm uses station keywords and your listening patterns to determine how relevant shows within that station are to the station topic and your interests. The most relevant shows appear first.
You can create your own station by adding shows to your Favorites.
The settings page allows existing users to see or modify their user profile information. You can go to your settings and change your email, password, and phone number. You can also sign up for email updates. If you are a new user, inputting an email and password allows you to transfer your favorites to your desktop computer as well as sign up for email updates about the latest new content and features on Stitcher.
Email updates allow you to receive all of the latest information about Stitcher’s new content and features. To sign up for email updates, go to Settings, turn email updates on, and save your settings.
About half of our shows are updated daily, some are updated hourly, and the rest are usually updated weekly. Because all of our shows are in rss/xml format, all shows update automatically as soon as new content is available. You will never have to manually update your shows or stations. If you suspect an episode is not up-to-date, notify us by sending a message to feedback@stitcher.com or using the feedback feature of the application.
Visit www.stitcher.com and click on the Listen link. Register for an account or login to an existing account. Once the player loads, pick the station you want. You will see a list of stations on the left under “Choose a Station.” You can choose a station either by topic (sports, comedy, etc.) or by news source (BBC, New York Times, etc.). Select a station topic or news source and the first show within the selected station will begin playing automatically.
To pause a show, simply click the pause button near the top of the player. When a show is paused, the pause button will turn into a play button. Click this play button when you are ready to resume listening. You can also use the spacebar on your keyboard.
As a show plays, you will see a small slider move along the horizontal play bar. Click and hold this slider and drag it along to move to a desired spot within a show. To know where you are within a show, look at the upper time to the right of the play bar that indicates how far along you are within a show. The lower time indicates show duration.
The volume adjustment bar is a short vertical bar at the far right of the player (to the right of the times). Click and hold the slider and drag up to raise the volume and down to lower it.
Skip a show in two ways:
1.) Click the skip button directly to the right of the play/pause button in the player. The player will skip to the next show in the show list at the bottom of the page. The skipped show will be moved off the show list, the next show will load, and a new show will be added to the bottom of the show list.
2.) On the show list at the bottom of the page, just click another show you would like to listen to. The selected show will move to the top of the list and start playing. They show you were listening to will move down one slot.

Even though you only see a list of 5 shows within a station at any one time (to avoid clutter), each station has many more shows associated with it. Once a show is finished playing, that show moves off the list, the next show in the lineup begins playing, and a new show populates the list. The show list essentially “scrolls” automatically.
Just refresh the page and you will see the current show list from the beginning. If necessary, use the skip button to skip through shows to get to the show you want. It is not possible to listen to past episodes of a show. Stitcher hosts only the most current episode for each show.
You can use the spacebar to pause and play.
The favorites feature allows you to organize all of your favorite shows into your own “My Favorites” station rather than having to visit multiple stations.
Click on the show you want to add. Once the show is selected and playing, click on the “add to favorites” icon with a star inside (the icon is underneath the Episode Title and above the show list). The first time you add a show as a favorite, Stitcher will create a “My Favorites” station under the topics station list (your favorites will not appear under the news sources station list). All subsequent shows you add to your favorites will be added to your “My Favorites” station. The number of favorites in your station will be displayed to the right of the station name.
You can add as many shows as Stitcher offers.
Currently, it is possible to create only one “My Favorites” station, but the ability to create and organize multiple stations of your favorite shows may be possible in the near future.
When using Stitcher on your computer, this is not currently possible. However, if you use Stitcher on a mobile device, you can edit the order of your favorites. The new order will be reflected when you use Stitcher on your computer.
Go to your “My Favorites” station and you will see a list of your favorite shows. Mouse over the show you want to remove. This will highlight the show in blue and an x will appear at the right of the highlighted field. Click the x to remove the show.
You can browse and listen to stations either by topic, such as sports or comedy, or by the news source, such as the BBC or CNN. This makes browsing for and finding the content you want faster and easier. If you are looking for a general content category, you can browse stations by topic. Under “Choose a Station” on the left of the home page, click “Topics” to see stations by topic. Click “more” at the bottom of the station list to expand the list.
To find a specific show or to see a list of shows for a general content category, use the content search and content directory at the lower left of the home page (below the list of stations). You can type in the name of the show you are looking for or keywords associated with the content you want and click search. You can organize search results based on relevance or in alphabetical order by selecting from the dropdown menu at the upper right. Click on a show to see details for that show. When you find what you are looking for, you can listen to it by clicking "Play" or you can add it to your favorites by clicking the "Favorite" on this page.
If you search for content you want on Stitcher and find that we don’t carry it, feel free to put in a request. Just click on the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of the player screen and send us a message describing the content you want added.
Station customization enables Stitcher’s advanced personalization engine to automatically retrieve the shows most relevant to your interests with minimal input on your part. You don’t need to sit in front of your computer for hours looking and listening to hundreds of shows to find the ones you like. Part of the basis for customization is keywords. Stitcher uses keywords added by you to seek out the shows most strongly associated with your interests. In addition, other listener inputs such as the “I like this” icon and “more like this” link are also used to customize and create stations tailored to your interests.
2.) Use the “I Like This” or “I Don’t Like This” icons in the player. Using these icons while a show is playing allows Stitcher to learn your preferences and arrange the shows in your stations accordingly.
3.) Modify keywords for your stations. In the player, click a Topics station name, and click “Customize this station” below the station name (Stations listed under news source cannot be customized). Enter keywords associated with your interests for that station and delete keywords that don’t match your interests. Click “Done customizing” below the keyword list. Stitcher will populate the station with relevant shows. Click “Revert” in the keyword list to return to the default list for the station.

Stitcher’s algorithm uses station keywords and your listening patterns to determine how relevant shows within that station are to the station topic and your interests. The most relevant shows appear first. Customizing a station by adding your own keywords allows Stitcher to seek out the content most relevant to your listening interests.
Stitcher’s personalization engine takes your preference into account and associates a preference with or against that show. As a result, these and similar shows will move to a more appropriate position in your show list (higher or lower) the next time you load the station, better reflecting your listening interests. Additionally, after clicking “I Don’t Like This”, the player will skip to the next show.
When you click “more like this,” directly below the picture for a particular show, Stitcher automatically creates a station for you with other content similar to the show you are listening to. This station is listed at the top of the station list on the left of the screen.
You can create your own station by adding shows to your “My Favorites” station.
Sharing allows you to tell someone you know about a show they might enjoy. To share, select a show and click the “share” link in the player. Enter your email and the person’s email who you want to share the show with and click submit. That person will receive a direct link to the show.
You can listen to Stitcher anywhere on any computer. However, you must be a registered user for Stitcher to remember your favorites and customized stations. Login to your account on any computer and all of your personalized shows and stations will be there as you left them.
